The Box Café, Ascent, Farnborough

GLJ Contracts Ltd were instructed to carry out an installation of a new demountable temporary café constructed from shipping containers to serve the Ascent Business Park.

Before:

Trenches were excavated for power supplies, data cabling and mains water supplies ducted to the new café location. Concrete raft foundations were prepared, and containers were craned into position and bolted together to form the outer shell. Tyvek vapour barriers and insulation were installed to insulate the metal floors, walls and ceilings, all studded out, lined and sealed with best birch plywood.

During:

Café kitchen fit out was installed to the clients’ requirements with Whiterock wall linings and M&E services surface mounted for an industrial finish.  A specialist drainage pump installed for removal of wastewater. Aluminium double-glazed windows and automatic doors closed up the openings.

The roof structure was overlaid externally with timber joists and rigid insulation concealing extract ventilation ducting, boarded over with marine ply and a TOR Elastaseal Coating to waterproof and provide a 20-year guarantee. 

Ramps and canopies were fitted along with a back of house compound for the café operators’ waste bins and mechanical plant. 

To complete the surrounding areas were landscaped, turfed and planted in keeping with the existing site.
